BlairLEARNS

PasadenaLEARNs is a school-based program that creates a safe and enriching place for hundreds of Pasadena students during non-school hours. Students are highly motivated to participate consistently and to learn through a wide variety of academic, artistic and athletic activities.

The PasadenaLEARNs program fosters explicit links to literacy, math and leadership development. All 20 sites offer a balanced program consisting of homework help, leadership development, visual and performing arts classes, structured recreation and other academic enrichment activities. PasadenaLEARNs also serves as a link between families and community resources to improve family health and resiliency.

Our Goals
Our hope is to offer a holistic approach to education that lets children learn and explore in a safe environment and achieve greater personal and academic success. The following three goals guide all of our site-based decisions regarding the academic and enrichment opportunities available at each site:
* Increase the Number of Students Meeting or Exceeding Academic Standards
* Strengthen Student Enrichment, Leadership and Service Opportunities to Create Neighborhood Resilience
*Improve Student Health and Safety and Reduce Drug Use and Violence

Our Classes
Each PasadenaLEARNs site uses PUSD teachers, youth leaders, and instructors from outside educational groups (called Program Partners) to help provide classes for the children at their site after school. Although each school site chooses their own programming based on their students' needs and interests, most of the schools share similar class offerings. Many schools offer classes in the following: academic intervention, art, computers, dance, drama, language arts, leadership, math, music, science, sports, structured recreation, as well as time for supervised homework assistance and small group tutoring.
