Principal´s Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,

Blair Magnet is a 7th grade through 12th grade Magnet School.  It is called a magnet school because we have a specific theme – the International Baccalaureate Programme.

The International Baccalaureate Programme is an integrated approach to thinking, teaching and learning that emphasizes international mindedness and responsible citizenship.

The school design model has built two separate schools on the campus with a Lower School, grades 7 through 9, and an Upper School, grades 10 through 12.  It is a small and safe learning environment where we get to know all of our students by name.

The International Baccalaureate Programme is a rigorous program; it is a series of required core classes that includes a World Language with the electives including visual and performing arts in grades 7 through 10.   The work is challenging and requires all students to take their studies seriously if they expect to be successful in moving through the program.  All of our students are assessed prior to entering the program with Mathematics being the driving force in the development of a student program.

As students enter the 10th grade the students also have the opportunity to enroll in an academy program which is a smaller learning community based on a specific theme such as Health, Culinary Arts, Leadership, Performing Arts, Technology or the extremely rigorous International Baccalaureate Programme at the 11th grade.

And of course we offer all of the CIF Sports Programs for our student population along with our Blair Learns Program which is an extended day program that offers enrichment opportunities for all of our students along with tutorial support in grades 7 through 12.

The school has three simple goals:
  • The establishment of a safe, secure and peaceful school climate
  • The establishment of a rigorous instructional program
  • To actively recruit and engage the community in the work of educating our students

Blair Magnet is a choice school so there is a process for applying to the school site with a limited number of seats available for in-coming students.  Our focus is on recruitment at 7th and 9th grade as we do have a larger portion of seats available at those particular grade levels due to the district feeder patterns.

Attendance at Blair Magnet implies that students will abide by the rules and policies as set forth by the school site and the governing board of the Pasadena Unified School District which includes a uniform dress code.  This uniform dress code policy is limited to khaki colored bottoms along with green, gold, black  and white solid collared tops with all outer garments matching these same school colors.  Our focus is on instruction!

School tours are scheduled every Friday morning at 8am.  Please call the main office at 441-2201 to confirm your attendance at one of these school tours.

Sincerely,

Rich Boccia
